Don’t Break the Momentum
In the world of student-athletes when one season ends another is surely to begin soon after. The demanding nature of school projects and the rigors of training around the clock, makes a week away from the grind as rewarding as a water break following wind sprints. Spring break provides the very opportunity where student athletes can either choose to bask in the sunshine, hang out with their bff’s, or simply unwind at a chill spot. Being a traditionalist and all, I strongly encourage participation in this hiatus. In doing so, make sure not to lose all the progress made by following these simple yet effective tidbits.
We talking about practice?
The sounds of Allen Iverson’s infamous “practice” press conference still reverberate throughout the sports community, and to be honest he wasn’t completely wrong. Whether it involves study or sports training sessions, no practice routine is created equal. If you’re the type of student-athlete that remains dialed into a regular schedule, then perhaps a week off wouldn’t be much of an issue. However, if consistency is more of a challenge, then maybe you shouldn’t stray too far from your norm. Point being, make sure you properly assess your personal situation, and practice accordingly.
Go Pro
For some, this might very well be the biggest uninterrupted window of time they possess. With this newly acquired inheritance, why not be proactive? Don’t be afraid to be more hands on with personal goals or semester reflection. Planning, preparing, or just thinking ahead can save time and reduce stress in the long run.
Take a Selfie
Ladies and gentlemen without further ado, I present self-care. This could involve extra rest, hobbies, or maybe just a fresh pair of J’s that have you feeling yourself. No matter the engagement, the priority is self, and the goal is to recharge. With the right mix of relaxation and joy, you’ll be ready to take on the rest of the semester with a full head of steam.
Spring Break may be a part of the journey, but it’s important to remember it’s not the destination. Celebrate the successes along the way, while refraining from becoming lackadaisical or a prisoner of the moment. You’re at the home stretch so rather than count down the days, make the days count!
