Tanner Davis Earns Double Gold
On April 21, 2017, Clovis Community College Swim and Dive teams finish day two of the three day competition at the Central Valley Conference Championships in Merced, CA. The Crush women are maintaining a substantial lead over last year's conference champion, College of Sequoia, by over 300 points. The men are placed solidly in 2nd place behind COS, who are leading the Crush by nearly 300 points.
The women capped off today's events with an exciting run at the State Championship cut in the 800y freestyle relay, as they stroked to the gold medal with a school record time of 8:22.25. The team of Rylee Radke, Makenna LaBlue, Nicole Bruno, and Lauren Holden finished ahead of the next school by over a whole minute to win the event in dominating fashion. Holden also earned an individual gold for the women in the 200y freestyle. The other women's swimmers making it to the podium include: Lauren Barcelos (2nd 400y Individual Medley), Makenna LaBlue (2nd 100y backstroke), Nicole Bruno (3rd 200y freestyle), Women's 200y medley relay (2nd – LaBlue, Bruno, Barcelos, Holden).
The men's team had an excellent finish to the day, as their 800y freestyle relay also finished on top of the podium. Dante Ramos, Ryan Martines, Logan Loll, and Luke Pfaunmiller combined to touch first and take the win for the Crush. Tanner Davis pulled an impressive individual double gold, as he finished in the top spot for the 100y butterfly and the 100y breastroke. Pfaunmiller helped the team point total and took to the podium to receive a bronze in the 100y butterfly. The men's 200y medley relay also scored well with a 3rd place finish, as the team of Davis, Martines, Loll, and Nick Anderson competed in the event.
The CVC Championships conclude tomorrow, as the women's team hope to strengthen their lead and the men continue to work on chipping away at the COS points gap.
