Four Qualify for State Championship
The Clovis Crush men's team were able to go 2 for 2, by qualifying both men’s divers for the State Championship.
Four Clovis Community College divers competed in the NorCal diving regionals on Saturday, April 13 in Cupertino at DeAnza College. This meet determines the divers to represent the region at the CCCAA State Championships, as well as determines the Bay Valley Conference diving championships. The top 8 scorers are invited to the state meet in May, which will also be held at DeAnza College.
The men were able to go 2 for 2, by qualifying both men's divers for the State Championship. The meet started with the 3m springboard, in which Joshua Depaz finished 3rd overall and returning CCCAA All-American diver, Jaylan Neal finished 5th.
Depaz finished highest out of BVC diving participants, which makes him the first men's diving Conference Champion in Crush history. Neal finished 2nd in relation to other BVC divers, which delivered a 1-2 finish for Clovis in BVC Conference standings.
The tables were turned in the men's 1m, as Neal finished 3rd overall and Depaz finished 15th. Neal also topped all BVC competitors giving the returning sophomore his first Conference Championship title. Depaz finished 3rd among BVC divers.
Scores from diving will be added to the total scores from the Bay Valley Conference Swimming Championships to be contested later, this week, in Fairfield at Solano College, April 18-20. After diving, the men lead returning champions, College of Sequoias (Visalia), by 40 points. Neal, and Depaz will compete at the CCCAA State Meet at DeAnza College, in Cupertino, on May 2-3. Neal will compete in both the 1m and 3m boards, while Depaz will compete only on the 3m board.
