Crush impressive at season-opening COS Invite
The 2024 Clovis Community College Swim and dive season got off to a great start for new head coach Shawn Jones and her Crush student-athletes.
On Friday, the Crush traveled south to Visalia for the COS Invite to take on Shasta College, Fresno City College, and host College of the Sequoias.
Despite a small Clovis roster of eight female and five male athletes, the squad compiled some impressive highlights.
For the Crush women, freshman Madison Ceglelski took first place in the 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 36.38 and also finished first in the 100-yard IM at 1:09.12. Freshman Jordynn Lyday took first in both the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58.26 and in the 50-yard free with a 26.49.
On the men's side, freshman Luke Cavitt was double winner, taking first in the 100-yard butterfly with a 57.45 and first in the 50-yard butterfly at 25.14.
From the dive squad, both freshmen Emma Prince and Hunter Jenny had solid opening meets. Prince won both the 1-meter and 3-meter dive events while Jenny placed second at both the 1-meter and 3-meter dives.
"Emma is new to diving and showed experienced poise," said Jones. "We feel she has potential and growth ahead of her. Hunter was consistent and gained confidence for the next event."
The Clovis Crush swim & dive team return to action on Feb. 24 when it will compete in a three-way meet against Bakersfield College, and Fresno at BC.
