Crush coach CJ Albertson finishes 7th at U.S. Olympic Trials
It was a weekend that Clovis Crush cross country and track & field head coach CJ Albertson and his wife Chelsey will never forget. The super couple both qualified for and competed at the 2020 U.S. Olympic Team Trials – Marathon on Saturday in Atlanta. Coach Albertson smashed his personal-best time in the event, completing the 26.2-mile race with a time of 2:11.49 to finish in seventh place overall out of a field of 175 competitors.
Albertson finished just four spots away from representing the United States at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Albertson averaged a 5:02 mile at the event on his way to surpassing his previous best time of 2:14.51.
Following the race, Albertson posted to his personal Instagram account (@cjalbertson): "Amazing weekend in Atlanta running with @chelseyalbertson and the best runners in the U.S.A. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout the way and @brooksrunning for the awesome kit and �� shoes. And a HUGE thank you to @atlantatrackclub for the world-class hospitality."
Wife Chelsey finished the women's race with a time of 2:52.22, good for 271st place out of 390 female runners.
With the event now over, Albertson can return to his coaching duties in Clovis. The Crush track & field team next competes at the Kim Duyst Invitational at Stanislaus State University in Turlock on March 7.
