Crush beat Fresno City 2-1 to pull level atop CVC standings

In the last regular season home match of the year, the Crush women's soccer team defeated #2 nationally ranked Fresno City College 2-1 on Friday afternoon in a tightly contested physical match. Much of the action came in the first half, as freshman midfielder Karyme Hernandez opened the scoring for the Crush in the 10th minute with a left footed volley from 12 yards out off an assist from freshman forward Leslie Zepeda . This was her team leading 9th goal of the season. The lead was extended to 2-0 in the 26th minute when freshman forward Irene Zamora connected with a right footed shot following a free kick cross by freshman defender Keska Turner. Fresno City pulled one back in the 36th minute after a corner kick led to a scramble in the box, where sophomore forward Alyssa Flores redirected the ball into the back of the net.

The second half saw the Rams pushing for the tying goal, but Crush freshman goalkeeper Angie Patrakis came up huge with two point blank one on one saves to preserve the lead. A total defensive effort from Crush helped close out the game, giving them their second victory over their cross town rivals in as many seasons. The victory sees the Crush move into a tie for first place in the CVC standings with Fresno City at 6-1-1, handing the Rams their first loss of the season. With two games remaining in the regular season, the conference championship is very much up for grabs. The Crush now have an overall record of 8-6-3. They will be on the road next week Tuesday at Taft for a 1pm kickoff and Friday at Reedley for a 6pm kickoff.
