Crush wrap up first conference championship with 3-0 win at Reedley
The Clovis Crush women's soccer team captured its first-ever Central Valley Conference championship thanks to its 3-0 win at Reedley College in its regular-season finale on Friday.
The Crush will share the conference title with Fresno City College after the Rams suffered a 1-0 loss at Taft College on Friday. Both squads closed out the CVC schedule with identical 7-2-1 records in conference play.
On Friday, Clovis turned a scoreless game at halftime into a rout. Leslie Zepata finally broke the deadlock with her unassisted goal in the 67th minute. Aliyah Anguiana made it 2-0, scoring off the assist from Karyme Hernandez in the 80th minute. Moments later, Hernandez broke free for a goal of her own, torching Reedley for the game's final tally with the assist from Jackie Sequra in the 83rd minute.
Angela Petrakis needed to make just two saves in goal to help post the Crush's seventh shutout of the season. Clovis outshot Reedley by a 12-8 margin in the contest.
The Crush will be making their third straight postseason appearance and will learn their opponent for the upcoming Northern California Regional Playoffs on Tuesday at the Nor Cal postseason coaches meeting. Clovis heads to the playoffs with a 9-7-3 overall record and currently holds the No. 6 spot in the Northern California Power Points ranking and appear to be on track to host a first-round postseason game.
The Northern California Regional Playoffs begin on Nov. 23.
