Crush win first-ever Central Valley Conference championship

For the first time in program history, the Clovis Community College women's soccer team has captured a Central Valley Conference championship. The Crush wrapped up the 2023 conference title thanks to Friday's 5-2 victory at Taft College.

The win improved Clovis to 14-1-0 in the CVC with one game remaining in the regular season and eliminated second-place rival Fresno City College from title contention. The Rams, currently 11-1-3, had won the last six straight Central Valley Conference championships.

The Crush set the tone early in conference play when they beat Fresno 1-0 in both teams' CVC opener back on September 12. The Rams got some revenge by beating Clovis 4-1 in their second meeting on October 13. But a three-game stretch of ties by the Rams midway through the conference schedule proved to be the difference, allowing the Crush to run away with the title.

Clovis has dominated its CVC competition this season, so far outscoring its opponents by a 49-11 margin. The Crush have posted shutouts in 9 of its 15 conference matches.

On Friday, the Crush fell behind early but erased a 2-0 deficit to pull out the clinching victory. Emma Greene's goal in the 35^th minute finally got Clovis on the board and began a run of five unanswered goals.

Valeria Quintero put in the equalizing goal in the 38^th minute to send the teams tied up at 2-2 into halftime. Jesi Garcia put the Crush ahead for good, scoring consecutive goals in the 56^th and 61^st minutes and Camren Rogers closed it out with her goal in the 70^th minute.

After allowing the early-game goals, Clovis goalkeeper Carly Tynan recovered with a solid final 67 minutes to post the win.

Clovis, now 17-2-1 overall, will close out the CVC schedule at home next Friday (Nov. 10) at 3 p.m. when the Crush host Merced College. Northern California Regional Playoff seedings will be announced on November 13 with first-round games set to begin on Nov. 15.
