Crush set school records, top times at Occidental, Jack Albiani meets
The Clovis Community College track & field team saw action in a pair of meets over the weekend. A portion of the squad headed south to Los Angeles for the Oxy Distance Carnival & Spring Break Classic at Occidental College on Saturday while others saw action in Modesto for the Jack Albiani Invitational on Friday.
At Occidental, Rhiannon Walker set a new school record in the 5000 meters with her time of 18:06. The result also resulted in a State "A" qualifying time, earning her spot at the 3C2A State Championships in May.
Julia Martinez ran 18:25 which is also a State "A" time. Walker and Martinez are currently ranked third and sixth in the state, respectively in the 5000 meters and No. 1 and No. 2 in Northern California. The duo is also ranked third and ninth, respectively in the 1500 meters from previous meets this season (also #1 and #2 in NorCal).
On the men's side, Guillermo Lopez set school records in the 1500 meters (4:00.77) and 5000 meters (15:31.62) at Occidental. His 1500 time ranks him eighth in the state. Marcus Jauregui set a school record in the 800 meters (1:55.02) to earn a State "A" time. He is now ranked fourth in state.
Quincy Patton ran 1:55.96 in the 800 meters which ranks him No. 8 in the state. He is also ranked among the top-10 in the 400 meters, his primary event.
On Friday in Modesto at the Jack Albiani meet, Lisbeth Mendez ran 19:43 in the 5000 which is ranked seventh in Northern California.
Other notes: Genevieve Tamondong is currently ranked fifth in NorCal and 13th in the state in the 800 meters.
