Freeman leads Clovis women to third place at Lou Vasquez Invitational
The Clovis Community College women's cross country team totaled 79 points to finish in third place at the Lou Vasquez Invitational on Thursday. The event took place at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco.
Led by freshman Alyssa Freeman's 14th place showing, the Clovis women were third out of eight teams. Freeman cleared the 3.1-mile course with a time of 21:17.9. Not far behind were sophomore Alyssa Canales in 17th place at 21:34.1 and freshman Toni Payton in 18th place, clocking in at 21:43.2.

Santa Rosa Junior College totaled 38 points to win the women's team competition and was followed by Modesto Junior College in second with 61 points. Julia Gonzalez of Diablo Valley College ran 19:19.0 to take the individual gold medal.
Both the Clovis men's and women's squads return to action on Oct. 4 when they will compete at the Toro Park Invitational/NorCal Preview meet in Salinas.
