Clovis men fourth, women fifth to open season at Fresno Invitational
The 2021 Clovis Community College men's and women's cross country season got off to a great on Saturday. Co-hosting the Fresno Invitational, the Crush men finished in fourth place while the women took fifth place at Woodward Park in a meet that featured NCAA Division I, II, NAIA, as well as community college programs.
The Clovis men totaled 129 points finished second among community college teams. Leading the way for Clovis was freshman Pierson Lamborn. He cleared the four-mile course with a time of 21:45.3. Freshman Adrian Cuevas was up next, clocking in at 22:26.5 for 30th place. Not far behind was freshman Mitchell Neal in 33rd with his time of 22:38.6.

Fresno Pacific University totaled 20 points to win the men's team competition. The Sunbirds were followed by American River College (42 points) and UC Merced (115). FPU's Patrikc Kiprop was the individual champion, running an impressive 19:28.1 for the win.
On the women's side, Clovis totaled 149 points to finish in fifth place overall but was first among CCCAA teams at the event.
Freshman Jennifer Recinos paced the Crush, finishing with a time of 19:50.1 on the 3.1 mile course for 10th place. Freshman Morgan Prescott was next for Clovis, clocking in at 21:06.1 for 31st place. Also among the top 40 were freshman Evelyn Zambrano in 34th (21:10.0) and sophomore Toni Payton in 38th (21:18.1).

Fresno Pacific University (42 points) edged Fresno State (43) to win the women's team competition. Cerritos College's Lauren Berg was the individual winner with a time of 19:13.0.
Both the men's and women's cross country teams return to action on Friday (Sep. 10) when they will compete at the Nor Cal Preview meet at Sierra College in Rocklin.
