Crush to host 2021 CCCAA Cross Country State Championships
The 2021 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) men's and women's cross country season will come to a close at Woodward Park in Fresno just as it has for the past 50+ years. But for the first time in the history of the prestigious meet, Clovis Community College will serve as the event's host.
The action begins on Saturday, Nov. 20 with the women's 3.1-mile state championship race at 10 a.m. followed by the men's four-mile final at 11 a.m.
A total of 21 men's and women's teams as well as 30 individuals (men and women) not on qualifying teams will be competing for the state championship.
Included in the state championship field are both the Crush women's and men's cross country squads.
Led by top-10 showings by freshman Jennifer Recinos in sixth place and sophomore Toni Payton in 10th, the Clovis women's finished in second place at the Northern California Regional Championships to earn its spot at the state meet.
The Crush men were sixth at the Northern California Championships to qualify for state. Freshman Adrian Cuevas led Clovis his 25th-place finish while freshman Cameron Van Zant wasn't far behind in 28th.
The Clovis men's and women's teams have qualified for the state championships for the third straight season under head coach CJ Albertson. The men's squad will look to improve on its 11th-place finish from the 2019 state meet while the Crush women are hoping to top their 16th-place showing from 2019 as well.
Admission to the state championship meet is free but a $5 per vehicle fee is charged by the City of Fresno at the Woodward Park entrance gates.
