Crush open 2022 season at FPU Sunbird Invitational
The 2022 season is finally underway for the Clovis Community College men's and women's track and field teams. On Saturday, both squads made the short trip to Fresno Pacific University to compete at the Sunbird Invitational.
Seven members of the Clovis men and seven Crush women were in action at the event with three achieving lifetime personal-record times.
Jared Orth earned the men's top finish, taking first place in his section and fifth place overall in the 800 meters with a personal-best time of 2:00.84 to lead a group of five Crush competitors in that event.
Abraham Cordova had Clovis' top time in the 1,500 meters. He finished second in his section and was 14th overall with his personal best time of 4:12.47. He was followed by Miguel Marin who was third in his section, 25th overall with his time of 4:35.12.
On the women's side, Walker Douglas turned in a PR in the 800 meters as she won her section and was seventh overall with her time of 2:39.44.
Evelyn Zambrano wasn't far behind in the 800, taking second in her section, clocking in at 2:42.90 for ninth place overall.
In sprints, Juliette Colunga turned in a pair of impressive performances by finishing in third place in each of her sections of the 100 and 200 meters. Her time of 13.26 was good for 12th place overall in the 100 while her time of 27.19 in the 200 was ninth-best overall.
Up next on the schedule for the Crush track and field teams is the Kim Dyust Invitational at Cal State Stanislaus on Saturday, March 5.
