Crush send three to 3C2A Track & Field State Championships
A trio of Clovis Community College track and field record holders are headed north up the 99 freeway for a final time this weekend.
Sophomore Jennifer Recinos as well as freshmen Julia Martinez and Quincy Patton have all qualified for and are set to compete at the two-day California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) Track and Field State Championships that is scheduled to begin on Friday (May 19) at Modesto Junior College.
Recinos makes her return to the state championship meet in the 5,000 meters after placing 10th in the event last year as a freshman in 2022. Earlier this season, Recinos ran 18:46.79 at the Gary Shaw Open in Salinas to set a new Clovis Crush 5,000-meters record and post a state-qualifying time.
Martinez will join Recinos in the 5,000 and will also compete in the 1,500 meters. She's coming off a school record-breaking performance, running 4:53.65 at last week's Northern California Championships 1,500 final where she finished fifth.
In the 5,000 meters, Martinez clocked in at 18:48.39 at the West Coast Relays in Fresno to secure a qualifying spot in the state championships. She was also fifth in the 5,000 at last week's Northern California finals and was first at the Central Valley Conference Championships in both events.
Patton is the lone representative from the Crush men's team and will compete at the state championships in the 400 meters. He blazed to a school-record time of 48.60 to finish in first place at the Central Valley Conference Championships.
Clovis is coming off the Northern California Championships that saw the men total 11 points for 19th place while the women were 15th with 17 points. The Crush are led by head coach CJ Albertson.
