Crush women, men face tough competition at Pacific Invitational
LODI – In an effort to ramp up their preparation for the postseason, both the Clovis Community College men's and women's cross country teams competed on Friday at the Pacific Invitational hosted by UOP.
The event, comprised of mainly NCAA Division I programs, was held at the Micke Grove Golf Course in Lodi.
The Clovis women totaled 215 points to finish in eighth place out of nine teams. Leading the way on the 6K course was sophomore Julia Martinez. Her time of 23:29.8 was good for 50th place overall.
Martinez was followed by Rhiannon Walker in 54th with a time of 23:38.0. Rounding out the Crush top-3 was Alyona Beams in 60th at 24:02.0.

St. Mary's won the women's team event with a score of 22 points. Molly Latincsics from Sacramento State ran 20:42.6 to finish in first place overall.
The Crush men took eighth place at the meet, scoring 167 team points.
Sophomore Guillermo Lopez led Clovis with his time of 26:12.5 on the 8K course to end in 35th place. Ethan Pricolo was next for the Crush, finishing 47th at 26:22.3. Not far behind was Alejandro Gutierrez in 49th with a time of 26:27.2.

UC Santa Cruz totaled 37 points to take first place among men's teams. Unattached runner Jonathan Velasco ran 24:01.0 to finish first overall.
Both the Clovis women's and men's teams return to action next Friday (Oct. 6) when the Crush will compete at the Toro Park Invitational in Salinas.
