Crush head coach CJ Albertson finishes in 13th place at 126th annual Boston Marathon
BOSTON – Clovis Community College cross country/track & field head coach CJ Albertson made his return to the Boston Marathon just six months after making a name for himself at last year's event.
The 126th Boston Marathon made its return to Patriots Day in Massachusetts after the pandemic forced the postponement of the event in 2020 and 2021.
And just like in 2021, Albertson stormed out to lead the pack from the open of the race. He remained in front past the halfway point on the course before cramping slowed him down towards the final five-mile stretch.
Albertson went on to finish in 13th place among the world's elite marathon runners with a personal-best time of 2:10.23. His time was the third-best among American men at the event. Last year, Albertson ran 2:11.44 to take 10th place.
Despite his impressive effort, Albertson felt he had the potential for an even better outcome.
"2:10:23 at the Boston Marathon today," Albertson posted to his Instgram account following the race. "A few years ago, I would've thought that was a fantasy. But things have changed and today was incredibly disappointing.
"Good thing crazy people have short memories," he added.
Prior to Monday's race, Albertson was featured in the Boston Herald, "CJ Alberston to pull a rabbit out of his hat in the Boston Marathon."
Albertson returns to his coaching duties with the Crush as he leads the men's and women's track and field teams towards postseason competition.
