Bio
Having started swimming as an age group swimmer at the age of 7, Coach Devere’s aquatic journey would not end there. He swam up until junior high, where he added water polo to his aquatic journey. He played water polo through High School, where he was a High School All-American, and was able to spend some time training with the Junior National Water Polo Team. His senior year he was part of the League and CIF Central Valley Championship Team, being voted MVP for not only his team, but for the League and the CIF Valley.
Coach Devere played one year of college water polo, but turned his interests into Alpine Skiing. He attended Fort Lewis College, in Durango, CO, where he Skied on the ski team for 2 years. To assist his training for skiing he cycled on the off season and realized he was much more gifted in cycling and was able to jump right into the professional ranks as a full time professional triathlete. He move back to California where he began training full time and was able to race nationally and internationally for 8 years. He finished as high as 3rd Place in the Association of Professional Triathletes World Championships in Kauai, Finished 2nd in U.S. National Biathlon Championships, 1st on the APT Pro Tour, 2nd on the Bud Light U.S. Pro Tour, and was able accumulate numerous other top 5 and top 10 finishes in National and World Championships, as well as winning numerous national and international races.
While racing full time Coach Devere was helping as an assistant coach with the National Group of the Clovis Swim Club, under the watchful eye of Rick Klatt. After doing that for 2 years he took over the Master Swim Team of the Clovis Swim Club and coached and ran that program for 26 years.
After retiring from full time racing Coach Devere finished his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physical Education and was hired immediately by Clovis Unified to start and run the aquatics programs at the new Junior High School, which had just opened up. He ran that program at Alta Sierra for almost 30 years, and during that time also helped coach the girl’s water polo teams up at Buchanan for a couple years.
Coach Devere is extremely excited to be working with the swimmers and staff at Clovis Community College, and feels blessed to have been offered this opportunity. He feels he can bring something positive to the team with his years of competitive, and aquatic, experience.
