Crush women second, men sixth to open season at Fresno Invitational
FRESNO – Led by a fourth-place overall finish by freshman Rhiannon Walker, the Clovis Community College women's cross country team totaled 90 points to finish in second place at the 2023 Fresno Invitational. The season-opening event was held at Fresno's Woodward Park.
San Diego Mesa College won the women's event with a team total of 38 points. Clovis edged third-place Hartnell College by one point as the Panthers ended with 91 points.
Walker cleared the course with her time of 19:38.41. She was joined in the top-20 by freshman Milca Martinez in 17th place at 21:07.98 and freshman Lola Beams in 19th place with a time of 21:31.46.

Hartnell's Andrea Villegas finished first overall, clearing the Woodward Park course with a time of 18:36.48.
The Clovis men scored 159 points to finish in sixth place at the event. Guillermo Lopez paced the Crush, leading his squad in 11th place at 21:16.45. Marcus Jauregui was up next for Clovis, taking 21st place with his time of 21:38.67.

San Diego Mesa College ran away with the men's team title by scoring 27 points. The Olympians were led by Jyden Schmid's first place individual finish at 20:18.71. San Bernardino Valley College was second (103 points), followed by Bakersfield College in third (108).
The Crush will take some time off until their next competition. The Clovis women and men return to action on Sept. 22 when they will compete at the NorCal Preview Meet at Hidden Valley Park in Martinez.
