It was an offensive outburst late in the second half that helped propel the Crush Women's Soccer team to a 5-1 win on the road against Cañada College Friday.
After both teams traded a handful of shots on goal, Cañada was the first to get on the scoreboard, taking a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. The Crush would respond well though, with the tying goal coming courtesy of freshman Ariana Quintero for her 5th of the year in the 37th minute. Taking back the momentum, sophomore Nataly Sanchez would score her first for the season in the 44th minute, picking up a rebound off a shot from sophomore Savannah Dungan and sending the Crush into halftime with a 2-1 lead.
The Crush would come out the second half and have to withstand considerable pressure from Cañada until they were finally able to put the game away in the final 8 minutes. The third goal was scored from the penalty spot by sophomore Marie Tejeda in the 82nd minute after Dungan was taken down in the box. Two more would come in quick succession, with freshman Brooke Gill completing a counter attack after receiving a pass from Sophomore Annika Van Beurden, and lastly Mia Castillo finishing first time from a pass from Quintero.
It was the first road win on the season for the Crush and takes their overall record to 2-1-2. They will be home for the next two matches, first facing off against Hartnell College on Tuesday, September 11 at 4:30pm, and then taking on 2017 CCCAA State Runner-up Santa Barbara City College on Friday, September 14 at 3:00pm. Go Crush!!!
