The Clovis Crush women's soccer team opened up play at the highly-competitive New Balance Community College Showcase on Friday with a narrow 1-0 loss to Rio Hondo College.
Clovis closes out the tourney on Saturday (Aug. 31) at the Ventura College Sports-Plex with a 2:30 p.m. contest against West Valley College.
On Friday, the Crush defense played much better than in its season-opening 3-1 defeat to Folsom Lake College earlier in the week. Rio Hondo's Zitlali Jimenez scored the game's lone goal in the 32nd minute and that would prove to be the game-winner.
The Crush outshot the Roadrunners by an 11-7 margin but couldn't come through on their opportunities. Freshman Angela Petrakis put together a good effort in goal for Clovis and played all 90 minutes.
Following Saturday's game, Clovis will host Cañada College in its home opener on Sep. 6 at 2 p.m.
