No. 5-seeded Clovis Community College advanced to Round 2 of the Northern California Regional Playoffs thanks to a 4-0 victory over No. 12 West Valley College in an opening-round game on Saturday in Clovis.
The Crush got goals from by Precious Martinez (1), Jordyne Puentes (8), Julia Avila (2), and an own goal by West Valley (9-10-2 overall) on their way to the win. Clovis is now 14-4-2 overall.
Goalkeeper Angie Petrakis and the Clovis defense played another solid game and earned the Crush's 11th shutout of the season.
Clovis will hit the road for its second-round game on Tuesday (Nov. 23) when the Crush travel to No. 4 Folsom Lake College. Folsom Lake, now 14-1-4 overall, was a 2-1 winner over No. 13 Las Positas College on Saturday.
Clovis and Folsom Lake will face each other for the second time this season. On Sept. 10, the Crush suffered a narrow 1-0 loss at home.
