SALINAS – The 2022 season got off to a solid start for the Clovis Community College women's soccer team. On Friday, the visiting Crush played Hartnell College to a 1-1 tie in both teams' season opener.
Sophomore Jordyne Puentes scored Clovis' lone goal of the contest, giving the Crush a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute after taking the assist from sophomore Teresa Quintero.
Puentes, who was third on the Crush in scoring last season with eight goals, will be relied on heavily as a returning starter on the offensive side of the field.
The Clovis defense and freshman goalkeeper Carly Tynan were solid until the 65th minute. The Panthers' Yesenia Tijerina knocked in the equalizer to take away a potential Crush victory.
Tynan played well in her Clovis debut as she totaled six saves.
With a record of 0-0-1, the Clovis women will look to secure their first win on Friday (Sep. 2) when the Crush travel to Folsom Lake College for a 3:30 pm non-conference game.
