CLOVIS – Alyssa Ruelas' goal in the 40th minute would prove to be all the offense the Crush would need as Clovis Community College defeated visiting Reedley College 1-0 in a Central Valley Conference game on Tuesday.
With the victory, Clovis kept its spot at the top of the CVC standings. At 6-1, the Crush are currently tied with Fresno City College for first place. Clovis also won its sixth straight game to improve to 8-4-2 overall.
Reedley, who entered the contest at 4-1-1 and 9-2-1 overall, gave the Crush a good battle. But just moments before halftime, Ruelas scored the game's lone goal off the assist from Paige Smith.
Goalkeeper Carly Tynan and the Crush defense were solid in posting the team's third shutout of the season.
Clovis and Fresno City will battle for conference supremacy for the second time this season on Friday (Oct. 21). The Crush play at FCC with the game set for a 4 p.m. kickoff. Earlier this season, the Rams handed the Crush its lone CVC defeat, 2-0 in Clovis.
