Woodland Hills – Natalie Galicia knocked in the game-winning goal just moments before the final whistle and Valeria Quintero had a goal and an assist to to help lead Clovis Community College to a shocking 2-1 victory at Los Angeles Pierce College on Tuesday.
Galicia's goal in the 90th minute gave the Crush their second win of the season in a game that looked destined for a draw.
Clovis got off to a solid start thanks to Quintero's goal in ninth minute off the assist from Celeste Suarez that gave the Crush a quick 1-0 lead. Pierce responded with the equalizer in the 23rd minute with a goal from Livia Pereira.
The game remained tied all the way until added time. Quintero fed Galicia for the assist on game-winning goal, setting off the Crush celebration.
Carly Tynan totaled 6 saves in goal for the Crush in preserving the victory.
It was Clovis' second consecutive win after the Crush went on the road to shutout Lake Tahoe Community College 1-0 on Friday in their season-opener.
Alyssa Ruelas' goal in the 70th minute off the assist from Quintero was all the offense Clovis would need. The Crush defense and Tynan were able to keep Lake Tahoe off the board.
Clovis, now 2-0, returns to action on Friday (Sep. 8) when the Crush will host Santa Rosa Junior College in its home opener at 1:30 p.m. The game will be followed by the Clovis men's soccer team taking on Hartnell College at 4 p.m.
