Crush women finish second, men third at Central Valley Conference Championships
SANGER – The Clovis Community College women's track and field team won six events while the Crush men captured two at the 2022 Central Valley Conference Championships. The event was held at Sanger High School's Tom Flores Stadium on Saturday.
Overall, the Clovis women totaled 69 points to finish in second place behind College of the Sequoias with 126 points. The Crush men ended with 37 points for third place, trailing COS (153 points) and Fresno City College (94).
Freshman Juliette Colunga had a big day for the Crush, winning conference championships in the 200 meters (26.85), 400m (1:00.40), long jump (15-0 ½), and teamed up with Walker Douglas, Jas Bhatti, and Ann Burton to win the 4x400m relay (4:30.45).
Jennifer Recinos was the winner of the 10,000 meters, finishing with a state-qualifying time of 40:41.91. She also took second in the 5,000m (20:17.10) and was third in the 1,500m (5:07.07).
Rounding out the women's victories was Briana Ortega in the 3,000m Steeplechase as she clocked in at 13:21.47.
Other top finishes for the women included Burton taking third in the 100m (13.80) and Douglas finishing second in the 800m (2:37.98). Morgan Prescott added a pair of third-place showings in the 5,000m (20:34.77) and 10,000m (42:03.72).
On the men's side, Clovis got first-place finishes from Jared Orth in the 800m with his time of 2:00.57 while Abraham Cordova was the winner of the 3,000m Steeplechase at 10:17.69.
Adrian Cuevas added a pair of second-place showings in the 10,000m (35:24.94) and 5,000m (16:46.83) while Harshdeep Singh took third in the 800m (2:05.43).
Up next for the Crush is the Northern California Regional Trials on May 6 at Chabot College in Hayward with the NorCal Finals set for May 14.
