Walker captures first-ever state title; Crush earn 7 top-10 finishes at State Championships
MISSION VIEJO – History was made at the 2024 3C2A Track & Field State Championships on Saturday at Saddleback College.
Clovis Community College freshman Rhiannon Walker had a huge weekend, earning a gold and silver medal at the state finals in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase and 5,000 meters. Her state championship in the steeplechase is officially the first-ever for a team or individual in Crush Athletics history.
Walker's winning time of 11:03.91 in the steeplechase improved upon her own state-leading time and currently ranks No. 7 on the all-time state championship top-10 list. She added a second-place finish in the 5,000, clocking in at 17:35.13.
Genevieve Tamondong also turned in a state runner-up finish, earning a silver medal in the 800 meters with a time of 2:13.11. The mark shaved six seconds off her previous personal best.
Julia Martinez earned a pair of top-10 showings. She was fifth in the 5,000 meters at 17:49.11 and recorded a sixth-place finish in the 1,500 with her time of 4:46.78.
