Clovis women first, McGehee wins men's race to lead Crush to second, at CVC Championships
FRESNO – The Clovis Community College women continued their dominance by winning the Central Valley Conference cross country championship for the fourth consecutive season. The 2022 CVC Championships were held on Wednesday at Woodward Park.
Clovis has won the conference title every year since its inaugural season in 2018. The CVC Championships were cancelled in 2020 due to COVID.
On Wednesday, the Crush women came away with four of the top-five finishers in the event on their way to 21 team points and the conference championship.
Freshman Julia Martinez led Clovis in second place as she cleared the 3.1-mile course with her time of 19:27.6. She was followed by teammates Walker Douglas (third place, 19:32.0), Evelyn Zambrano (fourth, 19:51.3), Jennifer Recinos (fifth, 20:05.2), and Megan Duran (seventh, 20:36.0) to earn All-Central Valley Conference cross country honors (top-7 finishers).
Also for the Crush, Gabriella Avila was eighth (21:05.4) and Linda Padilla Gonzalez finished 16th (30:05.2).
Sequoias' Liliana Salado won the women's individual championship, clocking in at 19:20.1. COS finished in second place in the team standings with 43 points followed by Fresno City College in third with 66 points.
On the men's side, Clovis freshman Sebastian McGehee was the men's individual champion, clearing the four-mile course with a time of 21:20.9. The Crush (28 points) finished second in the team standings just one point behind conference champion College of the Sequoias (27 points).
Marcus Jauregui (22:22.3) and Aron Teffra (22:21.0) finished fourth and fifth to earn All-Central Valley Conference cross country honors for the Crush.
Other finishers for the Crush included Dominic Bien (eighth, 22:29.8), Jordan Barajas (10th, 23:10.9), Miguel Marin (12th, Isaiah Tapia (15th, 24:23.8), and Anthony Hernandez (20th, 28:08.6).
Up next for the Crush is the Northern California Championships set for Nov. 5 at Rohner Park in Fortuna.
