Clovis women wrap up season with fourth-place finish, men 15th, at State Championships
FRESNO – Another impressive Clovis Community College cross country season came to a close on Saturday as the Crush women finished in fourth place while the men were 15th at the 2022 California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships at Woodward Park.
Led by an 18th-place individual showing by freshman Julia Martinez, Clovis totaled 160 team points to finish fourth overall and first among all Northern California programs. The fourth-place finish also matched the Crush's 2021 showing at the state championships.
Martinez cleared the 3.1-mile course with a time of 19:14.2. She was joined in the top-25 by sophomore Walker Douglas with her time of 19:19.0, good for 24th.
Sophomore Evelyn Zambrano checked in with her 31st-place finish at 19:34.6. Sophomore Jennifer Recinos was up next in 48th place with her time of 20:05.4. Also for the Crush, sophomore Megan Duran ran 21:08.4 for 76th place, and freshman Gabriella Avila finished 89th with a time of 21:34.5.
On the men's side, Clovis totaled 398 points to finish in 15th place, an improvement of two spots from last year's state championship final.
Freshman Sebastian McGehee once again led the Crush, clearing the 4-mile Woodward Park course with his time of 21:01.2.
Up next was freshman Marcus Jaregui in 76th at 21:49.8. He was followed by freshmen Arron Teffra at 22:13.2 (96th), Dominic Bien at 22:54.3 (107th), Jordan Barajas with 22:56.6 (134th), Isaiah Tapia at 23:12.1 (146th), and Miguel Marin with 36:09.0 (176th).
Both the Crush women and men qualified for the State Championships for the fourth straight season under head coach CJ Albertson. Clovis Community College served as host of the state championship event for the second year in a row.
