Walker leads Clovis women to sixth straight title; Crush men win second consecutive Central Valley Conference championship
FRESNO – Led by a first-place finish by sophomore Rhiannon Walker, the Clovis Community College women's cross country team totaled 23 points to capture the 2024 Central Valley Conference championship on Tuesday at Woodward Park.
Not to be outdone, the Crush men also took home the team title, scoring 27 points to finish in first place.
For the women, it was their sixth straight conference championship while the men were winners for the second straight year.
Walker won the women's individual race for the second time. She cleared the 5,000-meter course with a season-best time of 18:24.2.
All five of the Crush's scoring runners finished among the top-10. Magy Marcelo was third at 19:55.5, Lisbeth Mendez took fourth with a time of 20:09.6, and Genevieve Tamondong finished seventh at 20:23.0. Walker, Marcelo, Mendez, and Tamondong earned All-Central Valley Conference honors by finishing in the top-7.
Right behind Tamondong was Maria Garcia in eighth at 20:32.0, Macie Riddle was ninth with her time of 20:35.0, Alyona Beams took 10th at 21:05.3, and Sofia Ruiz De La O finished 11th with a time of 21:07.5

The Crush men were led by freshman Ivan Barranco and his second-place showing. He cleared the four-mile course at Woodward Park with his time of 21:32.1.
Similar to the women, the Crush men's five scoring runners all finished in the event's top-10.
Barranco was followed by Joaquin McGee in fourth place at 22:00.5, Izak Samorano in fifth with a time of 22:11.6, and Edwin Quiroz-Cisneros in seventh at 22:23.6. Barranco, McGee, Samorano, and Quiroz-Cisneros earned All-Central Valley Conference honors by finishing in the top-7.
Clovis had the No. 9-11 finishers in Anders Vasconcellos (22:37.3), Jose Diaz Hernandez (22:40.0), and Isaak Camacho (22:40.8).

Up next for the Crush cross country teams is the Northern California Regional Championships on Nov. 8. The meet is set to take place at Toro Park in Salinas.
Both squads are looking to repeat at regional champions. The Clovis women look to capture their third straight title while the men are in search of their second consecutive championship.
